As surveys discover greater numbers of supernova, our analyses become limited by systematics rather than data. Hierarchical Bayesian models are perfect for incorporating subtle effects into our model, and so I made one to do just that.

A small python project to visualise cosmological surveys. What started as a simple idea for a single plot for a poster turned into a score of plots, video animations, a student project, and an open-source GitHub repository. I regret nothing.

A library I wrote to consumer chains to get parameter summaries and contours. I wanted to keep this project small, but after promoting it to the Dark Energy Survey, a got many requests for extensions. So now it can do many things, from LaTeX tables, convergence statistics, and so much more.

Using machine learning to differentiate stars and Globular Clusters in Maffei 1. During my time in Chile, I used photometry to categorise astronomical objects. Remove background galaxies, foreground stars and contaminants, follow up the the globular clusters spectroscopically.

Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) are the sound waves from the primordial soup of energy from the Universe's infancy, frozen out as the Universe expanded. We can see it now in the large scale structure of the universe, and analyse it.

The final engineering group project was to create a DJ Board! Due to unfortunate circumstances, I ended up designing almost the entire board, from the last-minute veroboard circuitry, the firmware and the desktop Java configuration application. It actually turned out really well!

Our mechatronics group project was to create a satellite to target IR sources and shoot a laser at them. The bulk of the operation consists of an array of IR sensors that feed into a PID controlled reaction wheel, giving surprisingly good accuracy in the end.

My favourite project from high school - designing a functional compute case. It is modelled in Catia to be constructible from folded sheet metal, and exported to 3DS and then Maxwell Render to get the high quality PBR renders it is known for.
